When do you expect people to start Christmas shopping this year? Have they started already?
There are a lot of cautious customers making purchases throughout the year, to spread the cost. In fact we have several customers who come to the January sales in preparation for next Christmas!! Then there are the guys who leave it until Christmas eve, so boys if that’s you, we are open until 5pm this Christmas eve and 9pm every night the week before! We are seeing a lot of party frocks in stores now – so girls time to get organised for that Christmas party.
What types of presents do you think will be particularly popular?
Computer games are really sought after at this time of year, especially Call of Duty and the new Batman game that launches this month. Also Armani Yellow Diamonds will be hugely popular and for the children Lego is set to be big this Christmas which you can pick up from John Lewis.
In Harvey Nics, McQueen Menswear is highly coveted and Hunter wellies and Barbour jackets are great to keep the stylish warm this winter, and of course the Iphone 4s will fly out of the doors this Christmas.
What’s happening at St James Centre & Multrees Walk this Christmas?

Any top tips for Christmas shopping or for finding bargains?
Be organised, write a list of who you need to buy for and set a budget– although this is good in theory- as I often find I get inspired to spend more when shopping as I see so many lovely things, of course this is good for my friends and family!!
What are you hoping that Santa brings you this Christmas?
Well, come Christmas day a rest would be more than enough of a gift for me, failing that, some new Hunters to walk my dog in the inevitable snow!!
What’s the best present you’ve ever received?
Family know me so well so all their generous gifts are always spot on, it would be difficult to put my finger on one gift in particular. I guess an unexpected gift was rescuing my little dog Ollie at Christmas in 2004.
Why do you think Edinburgh Sparkles during the winter?
I love the trees which are lit throughout Princes Street as they really enhance our already beautiful city. Of course the markets are a favorite, particularly the mulled wine!!
